Afeka Adopts "Cracking the Glass Ceiling"
For several years, Afeka College collaborated with Alliance Israélite Universelle (AIU) on an impactful program aimed at advancing female junior high school in STEM fields.
The "Cracking the Glass Ceiling" project brought groups of 8th grade girls from around the country to visit Afeka's campus and laboratories each week. Led by Afeka's own female students and faculty, who served as inspiring role models, these visits provided the girls with an opportunity to participate in hands-on engineering workshops based on Afeka’s flagship “Experiencing Engineering” program. The activities provided a supportive environment for the girls to imagine future careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
With females historically underrepresented in STEM fields, tapping into the full potential of Israel's brightest young minds regardless of gender is key for our innovation-based economy.
As a leading academic institution for engineering and science in Israel, Afeka believes opening doors for young women in these disciplines is vital for empowering the next generation. As Afeka President Moyal explains, “the ultimate goal behind such initiatives goes beyond closing gender gaps in specific industries. It’s about “giving equal opportunity to every promising student in Israel, no matter their gender, background or preconceived limitations.”
This commitment to inclusivity has made Afeka a leader in driving national progress in STEM education. The college takes pride in cultivating spaces where all young minds, especially those facing the greatest barriers, can gain the skills, inspiration and connections to excel in STEM.
