حامل لقب أول في هندسة صناعة وادارة في التخنيون، ولقب ثانٍ ودكتوراه في علوم المواصلات في الكلية لهندسة مدنية وبيئية في التخنيون، وصاحب شهادة في أنظمة ذكية من جامعتي هيلسينكي وبيركلي، وحامل لقب ما بعد الدكتوراه في الكلية للهندسة من جامعة بن غوريون، وفرد كادر في جامعة غرب إنكلترا، بريستول في السنوات 2012-2004. وقد قاد اجراء بحوث لصالح صناديق بحثية، والاتحاد الأوروبي، وحكومتي بريطانيا وإسرائيل، وسلطات بلدية وهيئات صناعية. وقد فاز بجوائز عن الامتياز في التدريس والبحث.

يقدم البروفيسور أفينيري خدمات استشارة وبحث لأكثر من 50 منظمة صناعية وحكومية في البلاد والعالم في مواضيع المواصلات واللوجستيات. ويكون مؤسس ورئيس مركز أفيكا للبنى التحتية للمواصلات واللوجستيات (ACITRAL). وهو عضو في لجنتين عائدتين لل-Transportation Research Boardالأميريكي، وسكرتير سابق للمنظمة الأم للجامعات في بريطانيا وإيرلاندا في مواضيع المواصلات (UTSG)، وناشط في بضعة منظمات دولية، ومن بينها IATBR ,IEEE-ITS ,EWGT,TRB .
